Prompt - “You’re not a burden”

The first thing that set you off, was when Takeru woke up at nine.

Takeru woke up around five to six every morning. Five when he had school for most of the day and six on other days.

He woke up, brushed his teeth and showered before getting dressed, eating breakfast then leaving for school.

There was no school today, it had snowed during the night so school was canceled.

It still confused you though when Takeru came out of the bedroom with his back hunched and hand rubbing his eyes.

He was still in his pajamas and his hair was all over the place. It would have been cute, if Takeru’s nose and cheeks weren't red and voice wasn’t rough as shit.

“Goodmorning love”, you said. The second was that Takeru didn’t want breakfast.

You watched Takeru as he opened the fridge and took out a carton of orange juice.

You watched with a concerned look on your face as Takeru opened the carton and drank it for a few seconds before putting it back.

“You making breakfast?” Takeru said, voice low and rough, more than normal since he did just sleep for three more hours.

Though Takeru had mentioned it he seemed spaced out and uninterested. “Yeah, why don’t you sit on the couch and wait, I’ll call you when it’s done”, you said.

Takeru nodded, rubbing his eyes before walking over to the couch. Normally, Takeru loved pancakes, what you were cooking for breakfast.

He would stand next to you and stare at them as you cooked them. You watched him walk over to the couch till he sat down.

You turned your gaze back to the stove, flipping the pancake over to cook on the over side.

The third and final thing that said something was wrong with Takeru was his sleep.

Soon you heard two more things make their way out of the bedroom. “Y/n”, your digimon said. Moving to stand next to you as you cooked.

“Hello, d/n. Hello Patamon”, you said. Patamon greeted you back and sat on the kitchen counter next to the stove.

They looked worried so you asked them what was wrong.

“Takeru didn’t sleep well last night. He kept groaning and whimpering and tossing and turning”, Patamon said.

Making your worry worse.

You noticed that. Takeru did seem to roll a lot last night. Something that he doesn’t normally do.

You just thought he was having a nightmare, or was just more energetic. Though it seemed like something else was wrong.

You took the pancake off the stove and placed it on the pile or pancakes. You turned off the stove and put the pan and spatula in the sink.

“Takeru!” You yelled, “Breakfast if ready!” You waited a few moments. You walked over to the couch after not hearing anything for a few minutes.

When you turned the couch you found Takeru laying down on the couch fast asleep. You smiled sadly.

You kneeled in front of the couch and ran your hand through Takeru’s hair. His hair was tangled yet soft.

You rested your hand on Takeru’s forehead. It was hot, just what you thought.

Looks and feels like Takeru’s was sick.

Patamon and your digimon had followed you over to the couch. Your digimon rested on the arm of the couch near Takeru’s feet and Patamon was on the back of the couch.

Looking down at Takeru. “Is he okay?” Patamon asked. “He’s sick, don’t know what he has and it doesn’t look bad", you stood up.

"For now he just needs rest and some over the counter meds”. You walked over to the bathroom and opened the cabinet.

You pulled out a thermometer and some pills. You stared at the pills, now that you thought about it.

It makes sense that Takeru was sick. He was acting sluggish yesterday, didn’t really eat and fell asleep in class.

Or that’s what Takeru told you. But if he was feeling bad why didn’t he tell you? You had asked multiple times but he just brushed you off.

You walked out of the bathroom and back to Takeru to find him in the same spot he was.

Patamon was now on the arm rest near Takeru’s head. Still watching him with a concerned look on their face.

You placed the stuff in your hands on the coffee table. “Hey Takeru”, you said, placing your hand and lightly shaking Takeru.

“Wake up darling”, you said. This time Takeru rolled over, mumbling something before blinking his eyes open.

“Y/n”, Takeru mumbled. Slowly sitting up and rubbing his eyes, turning so his legs were over the edge of the couch.

You reached behind you and picked up the thermometer. “Open”, you said. Holding the thermometer in front of Takeru.

Takeru blinked a few times, “why?” Takeru said, reaching up to push the thermometer away. “Nope”, you grabbed his hands, “just do it please”. Takeru rolled his eyes and opened his mouth.

You put it in and you both waited till it beeped. You took out the thermometer, “102.4, you have a fever”, you said.

Putting down the thermometer and picked up the pills. You opened the bottle and dumped a few pills into your hands.

“Here”, you said. Takeru looked at the pills, “I’m fine”, Takeru said. You rolled your eyes, “no you’re not, you have a fever. You probably had it yesterday too”, you said and Takeru tried to glare at you.

Tried.

His eyes were lidded and he was swaying back and forth a bit.

“It’s fine Takeru, you're sick so what. There’s no school today so I can take care of you and you can stay home till you feel better. Patamon can even keep you comfortable”, you said.

Patamon quickly agreed with you. Patamon flew to sit in Takeru’s lap, looking up at him.

Takeru wrapped his arms around Patamon and hugged him. “Now take these”, you held the pills out.

This time Takeru took them and held them in his hands. “I’ll get you some water”, you said.

You stood up and walked to the kitchen to fill a glass with water. You walked back to Takeru and handed it to him before sitting next to him on the couch.

Takeru took the pills before placing the glass on the table. “I’m sorry”, Takeru said.

“What?” You said, not knowing when Takeru would be sorry. “I know you had plans today, now you’re stuck taking care of me”, Takeru said.

You took your phone out of your pocket, you did in fact have plans today.

You were planning to hang out with some friends and see a movie. “I forgot, but it’s fine”, you put your phone on the coffee table.

You looked over at Takeru, “look at me”, you said and Takeru looked up at you.

“I don’t care, “I’ll text my friends and tell them I can’t make it”, you said. “It's fine Takeru, I don’t mind taking care of you. I’m your boyfriend, It's my job”, you scooted closer to Takeru.

You wrapped your arm around Takeru’s shoulder and pulled him closer to you. Takeru rested his head on your shoulder while hugging Patamon.

You kissed Takeru's head, “You’re not a burden”, you said.

Already knowing what Takeru was thinking. You wished Takeru wouldn’t think like that.

Like he had to help others, always be ready to help but never accepting help. Always feeling like he was a burden.

You knew Takeru’s past was to blame, but you couldn’t change that. You could help though.

You leaned back and put your feet on the coffee table. Pulling Takeru into your chest, rubbing your thumb in a circle on his wrist.

“It’s alright Takeru, just rest. I won’t leave”, you said. “Thank you”, Takeru said before yawning and closing his eyes.

You smiled and relaxed back onto the couch. You’d much rather be here than at the movies with your friends anyway.

So you closed your eyes and relaxed, hugging Takeru tighter.

Ignoring your phone as it blew up.

They actually made a faithful English re-dub for the first three Digimon movies.

They got all available English voice actors from "back then".

Joshua Seth must have saved his announcement tweet ages ago, while being the giddiest, most nostalgic ball of sunshine about dubbing Tai all over again.

The English dub isn't even my original dub, but I feel incredibly happy to be able to witness this.

It's beautiful.

I love how Palmon's like all calm and nice with Mimi while Gomamon straight up tells Joe he's making everything worse by doing absolutely anything, Gomamon is a menace to society.

I love Digimon Adventure so much. We watched it with a friend, two episodes a week during last year. It was awesome revisiting it. I loved it.

varied language digimon dub thoughts

watching the german dub of digimon (trying to anyway, i'm not exactly fluent and i couldn't find it with subtitles) and WOW wizardmon in this is kind of an asshole??? the general voices are pretty damn close to the english versions and the words they are saying are very close to the japanese, but the characterization in wizardmon's voice is like... very cold and dismissive, and when he gets hurt he whines like a baby XD

in the japanese version he sounds much younger and more sweet and optimistic, eager to please and putting on a brave face when hurt.

i also checked out finnish and portugeuse and oh boy. we shall not speak of the european portuguese dub. just don't. brazillian portuguese was much more passable, i just personally didn't care for gatomon's voice, tho the technical aspects of it seemed fitting. finnish was eh, they seemed really flat.

all this has made me like the english dub even more actually. at least for wizardmon, his voice and characterization are a really good balance of the traits shown in the other dubs, and the emotion is some of the most intense. of course i am biased since this is the first one i watched as a kid and i'm only really fluent in english, but i can still hear the tone of the other voice actors when they speak. (for example when german gatomon tells german wizardmon to go back to looking for the eighth child, you can absolutely hear him rolling his eyes at her as he accepts the order, whereas the english and japanese versions are more eager to do as she says/fearful of her wrath)

as an aside, i've also read the various mangas and novel wizardmon appears in, so i use that to back up my interpretation of his personality. they all match the english dub version quite well, with him being polite, mature, somewhat cheerful and confident but not boastful, while the japanese makes him seem a bit naive and the german a bit cruel, neither of which fit the other materials.

Prompt - School Prompts

You sighed as you sat at the table.

You didn’t want to sit here, you preferred to sit alone but every other lunch table was already taken or packed.

This table just happened to have the least amount of people. It was also the closest table to you.

You made sure to sit at the farthest end from the people. There were three people at the table.

You didn’t pay much attention to them.

There was a boy with blond hair, a boy with reddish-brown hair with glasses resting on his head, and one girl. They looked slightly familiar, the blonde boy looked the most familiar.

He also looked pretty cute.

You probably have a class with him or something. They seemed to be talking to each other about school when you sat down.

They stopped for a moment, taking in the stranger that sat at the table with them.

You tried to pay no mind to it, picking up your fork and digging into the food on your tray.

You didn’t want to sit here, you preferred to sit alone, people often sitting at your table when the others were full.

Never the other way around. You preferred to be alone when you ate anyway. After a few seconds you heard some muttering from the other people at the table.

It was hard to hear since you were far away and they were muttering yet you got a few things. It was the boy with glasses muttering the most, the girl just smiling off to the side.

The boy with blond hair was muttering angrily while looking away from you. You glanced up at the group of friends.

Curiosity got the better of you, with no one to talk to and nothing to do you listened in. Leaning a little closer to the group of friends.

Your gaze went to the blonde boy first.

He was cute. His blonde hair a little unkempt and messy. Yet it looked soft, like it had no product in it.

His green uniform was wrinkly and unbuttoned with the jacket slightly off his shoulders. You felt your face get red. “Come one”, the reddish-brown haired boy said.

Voice now a little louder. You immediately looked away from the blonde boy and focused on who was talking.

“Shush”, the blonde hair boy said through gritted teeth. “He’s right there”, the reddish-brown haired boy said.

Pointing over at you without removing his gaze from the blonde haired boy. You furrowed your brows, were they talking about you?

Did they want you to leave and voted the blonde boy to tell you to move? You would move if they wanted, there were more tables.

“Say something, I’m done listening to you gush about him”, the reddish-brown haired boy said while rolling his eyes. “You gush about Ken”, the blonde boy said.

Making the reddish-brown haired boy blush and look away. Gush? Gush about you? This was weird. You looked away and went back to your food.

“Come on Takeru”, the girl said. You weren’t looking at them anymore, but you were still listening. Now even more curious than you were before.

Takeru, was that the blonde boy that the reddish-brown haired boy was loudly muttering at. “You were talking about asking him out, he’s right there. What could go wrong?”

The girl explained. You choked on your drink, coughing a little before covering your mouth. Your face red and eyes wide, the blonde boy, Takeru, wanted to ask you out?

He liked guys?

You didn’t see him as someone who did. He was kind from what you’ve seen and heard. He was on the basketball team and took part in some writing things around the school.

Girls seemed to like his soft and funny yet snarky clever personality and pretty boy look with blonde hair and blue eyes.

You only have one class with him now that you thought about it. He did seem familiar, you remember staring at him during class sometimes.

You looked back over at Takeru, how could you forget. Maybe you didn’t realize you were doing it because you did it in almost every class.

You’d have to agree, Takeru did seem like a nice person to date.

He was pretty and nice and you wouldn’t mind going out on a date with Takeru. “He doesn't like guys and he thinks I’m weird and bullies me or tells other people”, Takeru said.

Looking away from the wall and towards the girl. You looked over towards Takeru, he looked really sad. You felt sad for him, his worries weren’t that unplaced.

“I don’t think he would do that, especially since he’s been listening to this entire conversation”, the girl said with a smile.

Your eyes widened and everyone at the table looked over at you. Takeru and the other boy with side eyes and the girl with a smile.

Takeru had a noticeable blush on his face, making him even cuter. You were about to say something when the bell rang.

After a few dings Takeru got up from the table and speed walked away from the table and out of the door.

You watched him do this before looking back at his friends. The other boy was laughing while the girl was just smiling.

“Go after him”, she said and you nodded before getting up and running after him. It only took a few seconds to find Takeru, he was still speed walking while you were running.

“Takeru!” You yelled out, running till you were in front of him. You lifted your hand to stop Takeru from leaving while breathing heavily.

“Hold on”, you said before leaning back up and looking at Takeru. His face was still red yet he was nervous.

Not looking towards you instead looking towards the wall. “Your friend was right, I did hear everything”, you said.

“You were eavesdropping?” Takeru asked and you sighed. “Yes, and I know I probably shouldn’t have done that but listen”, you said.

You waited for Takeru’s answer. Takeru slowly looked over at you and nodded for you to continue. “Your friend was right again, I don’t care”, you said.

Takeru’s face lit up before going back to being blank. You smiled, “I would love to go on a date with you”, you said and Takeru’s eyes widened.

“You would?” Takeru asked and you nodded. “You’re cute”, you said. Takeru blushed even more, “more cute now”, you said. Takeru looked away and lightly slapped your arm.

“Charmer”, Takeru said. “Only for you”, you said. Takeru looked back at you with a smile on his face.

“Just going to flirt with me or take me on a date?” Takeru asked. “Meet me by the gate an hour after school, then I’ll take you on a date, Takeru”, you said.

Takeru smiled and nodded, “Okay Y/n, see you later”, Takeru said before walking past you and down the wall.

You turned and watched Takeru walk away. “See you later, cutie!” You yelled before walking the other way. Smiling at the thought of Takeru’s red face and shy smile.

Maybe next time you'll sit closer to Takeru.

Pokémon translation: rookie is like their 2nd evolution and it’s what they spend most of their time in, but if they’re hit hard they will recover in a previous, weaker form. champion is the next evolution, so “3rd” (upon hatching from an egg they actually have a baby/pre-evolution form, like Pichu, but we’re not counting it)

Pokémon translation: ultimate is after champion, so it’s like their mega evolution (4th). HOWEVER. do not get this confused with digimon’s “mega form”, which is a level up (5th).

Pokémon translation: Mega is the evolution after Ultimate, making it an evolution above pokémon’s own mega form (5th).

the "minecraft vs terraria" debate is similar to the "pokemon vs digimon" debate in that while very different pieces of media they share a few surface similarities and were therefore compared as if they were the same. and also one has far more guns than the other

Okaaay. We finally finished watching Digimon Adventure (1999) with a friend.

What an amazing journey it was! for me it was revisiting a story that I already loved and for him was watching it for the first time.

Let me tell you, it was such an amazing thing to watch as an adult. Like the amount of beautiful things that maybe as a child you don't really understand completely but as an adult they hit super hard.

Izzy and his parents, Matt and his feeling of loneliness, Tai being worried about Hikari, and her being super selfless. Everything is so perfect!!! I have read that people said the Dark Master had filler, and I don't get that at all, maybe it was ONE person and I took it to face value.

Anyways its beautiful watch it again rn.
